Our amazing lipsticks come in 16 shades from red to pink and nude and are packed full of pigmentation. With just one swipe you'll have fantastic colour pay off resulting in gorgeous lips! Why not pick a shade you've not tried before and get a new look? It is just £1 after all...did we already mention that?

My thoughts
I got this last year and have been using it off and on since then. Shade 13 is a blue-based red which comes across as a bright cherry red on my lips. It's the kinda red that makes your teeth look white. I think it's a perfect red for a pin-up look. Even though I love reds, I don’t usually shop online for it because I can’t be sure whether it will suit me or not. Likewise, this one appears a bit too bright on me which I personally don't consider to be a safe choice for everyday wear (looks gorgeous though) so I tone it down just a bit with a dark lip liner.

Shade 13 has a fantastic color payoff! I've read mixed opinions about the pigmentation of these lipsticks and I agree, some of the shades might be too sheer to even show up. Similarly the texture and finish of each shade varies so I suggest googling for swatches and reviews before you get one online. As far as Shade 13 is concerned, it has got a creamy texture that glides on the lips smoothly and gets opaque in two to three swipes. It adds moisture to my lips with a slight sheen finish however it may feel dry after some time. It can also highlight any dryness on your lips so it's not very dry lips friendly especially in winter. It has a sweet vanilla scent typical of MUA lipsticks that I like.

Applying a red color could be tricky as it has a tendency to bleed or feather so to avoid that, fill in your lips with a complementary lip liner before application. Blot and go for a second coat to add intensity. A lip liner also helps to make your lipstick wear longer. This particular shade lasts on me for about one hour on average after which it leaves a red stain which lasts another hour. It doesn't settle into the crack of my lips (it could if you layer too much) and fades evenly if coupled with a lip liner underneath. It comes in a glossy black tube with a bottom that shows the true color inside. The packaging is actually nice for a £1 lipstick however the lid doesn’t close firmly so be careful about carrying it with you in your purse.

Overall, for a dirt cheap price, this lipstick deserves some praise. If you have medium to dark skin tone, I suggest you opt for deeper shades in the range as the lighter ones might be too pale for you or lack pigmentation. If longevity is your top-most priority, pass on these.

You might like it if...
  • You're looking for a bright red lipstick
  • You expect easy and smooth application
  • You expect this shade to fade evenly (coupled with a lip liner)
  • You find it very pocket-friendly
  • You are okay with the sweet scent
  • You expect an average wear of two hours
You might not like it if...
  • You expect a long wear
  • You think some shades lack pigmentation
  • It feels dry on your lips
My rating
3.5/5
